The much awaited high octane sequel to the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner will finally be released this October. This time directed by Denis Villeneuve , Blade Runner 2049 sees Harrison Ford reprise his role as Blade Runner Rick Deckard. The original 80’s sci-fi movie was adapted from the 1968 novel ‘Do Androids dream of electric sheep’ by Philip K Dick, by screenwriters Hampton Fancher and David Peoples. Ever since 1999 there has been talk about a sequel but nothing concrete until it was finally confirmed in 2015 that although Ridley Scott was back on board that would only be as as a Producer with Villeneuve taking the helm. Along with Scott and Ford, also returning to the family is original writer Fancher.
So what has happened in the last fictitious 30 years? Well the film centers on the charismatic Ryan Gosling as a new Los Angeles Police Department blade runner named ‘Officer K’. After unearthing a long-buried, potentially catastrophic secret he is compelled to discover the truth, this quest to get to the facts leads him to former blade runner Rick Deckard who has been considered missing for the last 30 years.
With the first trailer released yesterday the excitement is sure to increase in the lead up to this epic sci-fi sequel.
